Nigerian AgriTech startup Winich Farms has introduced an innovative debit card program in partnership with Sterling Bank to empower smallholder farmers.

This initiative provides farmers with digital wallets and debit cards, enabling them receive payments promptly and securely. By tracking transaction data, Winich helps farmers build creditworthiness, facilitating access to financial services such as loans and insurance. As of late 2024, the company had issued 25,000 debit cards and plans to expand this number to 195,000 in the coming years.

In January 2025, Winich Farms activated over 500 debit cards for smallholder farmers in Benue State, further promoting financial inclusivity. This approach not only streamlines payment processes but also integrates farmers into the formal financial system, enhancing their economic stability and growth potential.

Riches Attai (CEO, Winich Farma)

Co-Founder & CEO at Winich Farms, Riches Attai says:

Journey to one million farmers financially included.

Concluded our first debit card activation for 2025 in Benue State.
We equipped over 500 small holder farmers with the Winich debit cards for financial inclusivity and access to loans to grow their business.

Our agents on ground were able to enroll the farmers adequately on the benefits and usefulness the debit cards provides them, and also how to transact seamlessly while [selling] off their grains through the Winich platform.

Empowering small holder farmers has always been an important part of our solutions, and we will keep pursing it relentlessly.

Winich Farms is consistently driving efficiency in the supply chain by providing a platform where informal offtakers (small and mid) and food producers get direct access to one another in a decentralised manner without the activities of middlemen.
