Melanie Okuneye (Founder, Akoma Health – providers of accessible and affordable mental health services) and Dr. Modupe Elebute-Odunsi (Founder, Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre) recently entered into a collaboration that will see patients of clinical cancer simultaneously enjoying the much-needed support of a mental wellbeing plan.
Excited excited by this innovative collaboration that offers “wrap around care” of cancer treatment and an in-house mental wellness service, Dr. Elebute-Odunsi says: “It was great to finally meet and have discussions with Melanie Okuneye of Akoma Health, a truly impressive young lady with a background in finance (Stanford MBA…Goldman Sachs…no less!) who. following the COVID pandemic, has seen the need to provide easier, more affordable access to counselling and other aspects of mental health therapy available via online consultations.
“On the Akoma Health platform, individuals can organise appointments with a clinical psychologist from the comfort of their home or work space. In addition, they have a choice of gender and religious affiliation of the service provider at very affordable costs!
“I must confess, with our growing numbers of patients, we had been struggling to provide sustainable emotional and mental health support to our patients, their family members and also importantly, to our staff who sometimes find it difficult to carry the emotional burden of breaking bad news to patients.”
