Uzoamaka Izukanne Igweike founded Loom Craft Chocolate in 2020 due to difficulties in getting hold of good quality chocolate in the market.
She said:
As a home baker, I found it very difficult to get good quality chocolate in stores and this didn’t [make sense considering] the fact that Nigeria produces a significant portion of the world’s cocoa. I started researching how to make chocolate at home
Ms. Igweike wasted very little time in tackling the situation, and the result was Abuja-based Loom Craft Chocolate – with the clear objective of literally turning Nigeria’s abundant reservoir of cocoa beans into top quality, incredibly tasty, and reasonably priced chocolate, entirely produced locally.
Today, Loom Craft Chocolate creates artful chocolate and cocoa-based products with beans sourced from Nigeria’s Southern regions, and infused with rich ingredients such as Coffee, Konio, Cashews, Ginger, Balla Kwabo and Kunu
To ensure business and industry sustainability, Loom Craft Chocolates have unsurprisingly developed and executed training programmes for smallholder cocoa farmers , focusing on post-harvest processing best practices.
