In collaboration with Leadway Assurance, former Banker, Ayona Aguele-Trimnell, recently (in March 2025) launched PlanB Insurance for Nigerian Women, a product that seeks to bridge a gap in insurance coverage by offering resources that genuinely cater to women’s unique needs, enabling them to secure their futures with confidence.

PlanB Insurance is intuitive in several key ways, making it uniquely suited to the realities of Nigerian women:

  1. Tailored to women’s needs – Instead of offering generic insurance products, PlanB Insurance is specifically designed to address the unique challenges Nigerian women face, such as financial security for single mothers, health coverage for maternal care, and protection against unexpected life disruptions.
  2. Flexible, affordable premiums – Understanding the financial realities of many Nigerian women, PlanB offers insurance plans that are easy to afford and structured to fit different income levels, making coverage accessible to a broader audience.
  3. Seamless digital experience – Women can access and manage their policies through user-friendly digital platforms, eliminating the inconvenience of paperwork and long queues.
  4. Quick, hassle-free claims process – The insurance is designed to ensure that payouts are processed quickly, reducing the stress and delays traditionally associated with insurance claims.
  5. Partnership with Leadway Assurance – By collaborating with a reputable insurance provider, PlanB builds trust and ensures its policies are backed by a strong financial institution with experience in the industry.
  6. Empowerment beyond insurance – Beyond coverage, PlanB is likely to integrate financial literacy, business support, and community-building initiatives to help women thrive.

Throughout her career, Ayona has been a staunch advocate for women’s empowerment and entrepreneurship. She previously served as the Group Head/Coordinator of the W Initiative at Access Bank, where she was responsible for developing and sustaining women’s portfolios across seven subsidiaries in Africa. Her role focused on understanding and addressing the financial needs of women, emphasising access to finance, markets, and capacity-building programs.
