According to Nutritionist, weight loss coach, and wellness consultant, Olubanke Claude-Wilcox, obesity is associated with a higher risk of having several mental health disorders, mainly due to the effects of weight discrimination.
These mental health disorders include depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder and eating disorders.
Olubanke adds: “It’s important to note that the relationship between obesity and mental health disorders is not a one-way street. This means that while obesity can sometimes lead to mental health disorders on the one hand, on the other hand mental health disorders can also lead to obesity.”
