Five years ago, when Maryben Omollo needed therapy, she couldn’t afford it. She was so broke that even securing a meal was not guaranteed. However, she bumped into a complete stranger on LinkedIn who offered to pay for her therapy.
Describing her case as ‘urgent’ and needing someone to save her, she says her new-found psychologist called Kiarie “never saw the short, ugly way I described myself or how I was described by someone close. I remember each time I would say that, he would burst with laughter and ask me to look at myself. We dealt with childhood, adulthood, and emotional and financial trauma. I felt alive”.
Omollo adds: “Many people sadly don’t have this chance; others give up and take their own lives; the rest don’t just recover”.
Today, Ms. Omollo is a mental health coach and is paying forward the kind, life-saving gesture she received by organising free mental health group therapy for entrepreneurs, founders, and anyone who feels they need it.
The sessions will entail sharing secrets to get unstuck, and provide a safe environment for people to tell their stories in order show that one isn’t alone, and to give hope. “We will dissect ways to navigate life, business, and how to stay healthy in this unhealthy world”, says Omollo.
The group therapy is designed not to be a one-time thing, but the Group’s lifestyle as a tribe.
