On Monday (March 04, 2024), Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, wife of Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, cut the ribbon to the new Àdìrẹ Èkìtì Hub, a local fabrics empowerment scheme and training centre set up in Ado-Ekiti (the State capital) to economically empower unemployed youths and widows.

The popular Àdìrẹ textile is a type of dyed cloth made in South-West Nigeria by Yoruba women, using a variety of resist-dyeing techniques

In partnership with the Nike Okundaye Art Foundation, the project kicked off with 220 beneficiaries undergoing intensive training on tie-and-dye processes – in a double bid to encourage self-sustenance and entrepreneurship, as well as revive the Àdìrẹ industry and contribute to Ekiti’s economic prosperity.
