In this experiment by the Parisian Tourist Office, approximately 50 newsstands will become official tourist information points: an initiative designed to offer improved services to visitors while supporting merchants facing declining press sales.
Every day, kiosk owners answer questions from tourists in the capital. This summer, around fifty of them will become official information points, properly trained to provide tourists and passers-by with better information. Before, during and after the Games, they will play a central role in welcoming and informing tourists, with the support of the Paris Tourist Office.
The system is simple: stickers, a QR code, or a sign will be displayed on the storefronts of participating businesses to help tourists ask their questions. The idea is to strengthen the territorial presence of the tourist office, especially given the upcoming Olympic Games. In January, the volunteer newsstand operators were trained on cultural codes and visitor expectations to become information relay points.
This initiative also aims to compensate for the decline in press sales by supplementing their offerings. In the same spirit, partnerships have been considered, notably with La Poste, to sell stamps and collect mail. The Olympic Games will boost the activity of the newsstands by offering new products related to the event.

How will the fifty kiosk owners be trained to become official information points, and what role will they play in assisting tourists and passers-by during the Games?
