In a significant win for homegrown innovation, Nigerian tech security firm Terrahaptix has clinched a $1.2 million contract to deploy advanced cybersecurity and surveillance systems across two of Nigeria’s strategic hydroelectric plants, edging out a competing bid from a leading Israeli technology firm.
The installation phase is expected to begin in July, with full system deployment targeted for Q1 2026. Once completed, the two hydro plants will become some of the most digitally secure power facilities on the continent.
The deal, secured through a competitive bidding process overseen by the Federal Ministry of Power, underscores a growing confidence in indigenous solutions for protecting Nigeria’s critical infrastructure. The two hydroelectric plants—whose names have not been disclosed for security reasons—are vital components of the country’s power grid, generating a substantial share of the electricity supplied to millions of homes and industries nationwide.

Hydroelectricity remains the backbone of Nigeria’s energy supply, with dams like Kainji, Shiroro, and Jebba contributing over 30% of the country’s grid power. But in recent years, these facilities have faced growing threats from cyberattacks, vandalism, and sabotage—raising alarms about the vulnerability of national infrastructure in an increasingly digital world.
