From physician to Real Estate investor, Nkem Ezeamama shares what counts when it comes to pivoting careers, and the importance therein of taking control of your personal narrative and life-changing choices. Here’s how Nkem’s a-ha moment kicked in:
“I started my life from scratch in my early 30s…
(My overnight success that took more than a decade…)
(Age 15) – Moving to the USA from Nigeria:
This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter.
A beginning with aspirations and the promise of endless possibilities.
It was a HUGE step into a world of new opportunities.
(Age 16-20) – The undergraduate years:
I embarked on my undergraduate studies in microbiology.
These years were marked by a laser-sharp focus on academic excellence. My dream was clear – to become a doctor.
Balancing my studies with teaching and library assistant roles, I strove to be the best student possible, laying the groundwork for my future in medicine.
(Age 21-24) – George Washington University School of Medicine:
During this period, I discovered my passion for emergency medicine – a field that resonated with my desire to make immediate, life-saving impacts.
(Age 24-27) – Residency at Carolinas Medical Center:
It was the most exhilarating experience of my life.
Training to become an Emergency Medicine Physician, I embraced the opportunity to save lives.
This wasn’t just a career → it was a calling, and I was fully committed to it.
(Age 27-30) – The ER Physician years:
As an attending ER physician, I found immense joy and satisfaction in my work.
I loved my job, my life, and the privilege of caring for patients.
Yet, a part of me yearned for something more, something beyond the confines of the ER. Decided not to pursue anything new.
(Age 31-33) – Confronting the pandemic: COVID-19:
The pandemic brought unprecedented challenges, leading to professional burnout.
Confronted with frequent death and loss, I began to question my path. What was my true driving force? What impact was I making?
(Age 34 and beyond) – Entrepreneurship and Real estate investing:
In this period of introspection,
I discovered that my calling extended beyond the ER.
I became an entrepreneur, ventured into real estate investing…
→ Found my true voice.
Becoming an entrepreneur and starting Pheenyx Capital Investment signified a transformation:
From a life-saving physician → to an empowering investor, speaker and more!
……
Today, I’m on a mission to inspire others not only to build their dream career, but develop a life of their biggest passions:
❌ You don’t need to continue working long hours, on weekends, or on holidays all your life if you don’t want to.
✅ You are allowed to take time off, take long vacations, spend time with those who matter most, embark on ventures that ignites your inner fire.
Start living your life on your own terms.
Try an “Expansive living”. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
