How much do you really know about business?
Who are you learning from to grow yours?
Today, I want to share an experience that changed my perspective on startups.
Meeting Tosin Eniolorunda in 2022 was one of the best things that happened to me in my startup journey.
Before launching Prokip Africa , I had no formal business education and had barely read about startups. But in just four days with him, I learned more than I had in the years before.
The most important lesson?
“How to dream big and pay it forward”
I got insights into the struggles @Moniepoint his company the 2nd fastest growing company in Africa faced in its early days
challenges even far worse than what we’ve gone through.
I also realized why having a technical co-founder was crucial.
Before meeting Tosin, I had never even heard of:
– Venture capital and fundraising
– Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
– Valuation comps and multiples
– Unit economics
– Runways, cap tables, and more
I didn’t fully understand what startup founders truly dream of and have in common.
Some of the things he told me then in 2022 in dubai only started making sense two years later.
And looking at how he built Moniepoint into a unicorn, it’s no surprise why.
As a founder, your survival depends on how much you know about what you’re doing
Yes, experience is a great teacher. But learning from those ahead of you can save you years of struggle.
The insights they share will help you stay calm even when things go wrong.
Because things will definitely go wrong,
So expect it.
The only time your startup truly fails is when you give up.
I often wish I had the knowledge I have today three years ago.
Now, every day, I wake up thinking about what I need to learn next whether from direct and indirect mentors, other founders, or even from my employees
What your business needs to grow is hidden in the knowledge you acquire, the problems waiting for you to solve and your commitment to growth.
Keep learning. Keep pushing.
