The Geometric Power plant, which recently launched in Aba (Abia State’s largest city and commercial centre) is owned by Prof. Barth Nnaji.
The plant has fired off the first of its four power-generating turbines, currently generating 141 megawatts of power, which is enough to provide 24-hour electricity to nine out of the State’s Local Government Areas (LGAs): Aba South, Aba North, Osisioma Ngwa, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Isiala-Ngwa South and Isiala-Ngwa North.
This is already proving to be a clear game changer for Nigeria’s power sector. To put things into perspective, Enugu State’s Enugu distribution company (DISCO), which is owned by Sir Emeka Offor, distributes just 300 megawatts across five states in Nigeria’s south-east: Abia, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, and Ebonyi.
Geometric Power is licensed to produce 188 Megawatts (MW) and is currently Nigeria’s only integrated power project, as it has its own embedded power plant that enables it generate and distribute its power, separating it from other electricity companies that either generate or distribute electric power.
The Geometric Power Group (GP) is made up of an electricity generation company (Geometric Power Aba Ltd – GPAL), and a distribution company (Aba Power Limited Electrical – APLE), which services nine (9) of the seventeen (17) LGAs in Abia State.
