In this heartfelt and inspiring reflection, Precious Aigbe shares his journey from an unexpected layoff to launching Lancity — a new learning platform designed to help immigrants pass the CELPIP exam with confidence. Drawing on his experience in digital marketing, education, and community-building, Precious turns a season of uncertainty into a powerful mission to serve others. His story is a reminder that sometimes, the greatest opportunities are already in our hands — waiting to be built into something extraordinary.
I was laid off from a job I truly loved.
Not because I underperformed.
Not because I made a mistake.
But because sometimes, life shifts suddenly and without warning.
From last year until earlier this year, I led Digital Marketing at Mohawk College, a role I was deeply passionate about. Then came the news: nearly 300 people, myself included, were affected by a mass layoff. The announcement followed a government decision to reduce international student admissions, a shift that impacted enrollment and college funding across the country.
I haven’t talked about it publicly until now.
Not because I was ashamed.
But because I was listening.
In that silence, I asked God a lot of questions.
And like He often does, He responded with one of His own:
“What do you have in your hands?”
The same question He asked Moses.
The same one Elisha asked the widow.
And for me, the answer came softly… but powerfully.
For months, even before the layoff, I had been helping people in my community tackle one of the toughest parts of the immigration journey: passing their English test.
No brand.
No product.
Just heart, knowledge, and the desire to see people win.
That realization changed everything.
Because maybe, just maybe… what I had in my hands was enough to build something greater.
So I leaned in.
Over the past two months, I’ve been building what AI now calls:
“The Netflix for CELPIP.”
Introducing Lancity — a learning platform built to help you pass the CELPIP with confidence, clarity, and community.
It combines:
* AI-powered coaching that thinks like a CELPIP examiner
→ Get personalized feedback on your writing and speaking, instantly with insights trained to reflect real scoring criteria.
* Tailored study paths that adapt to your unique learning needs
→ Whether you’re aiming for CLB 9 or CLB 12, Lancity adjusts to your pace, strengths, and goals.
* Live bootcamps and expert coaching from certified high-scorers
→ Join focused sessions led by people who’ve done it — and helped hundreds do it too.
* The most detailed CELPIP resource library on the internet
→ Think of it as your Netflix for CELPIP — with guides, templates, vocab banks, sample responses, and real tips you won’t find elsewhere.
* A culturally-aware community that’s walking this path too
→ Get encouragement, accountability, and support from people just like you — because no one should prepare alone.
I’m pouring everything I’ve learned: product marketing, product management, education, community-building, into this.
I’m a first-time founder in a niche that doesn’t always get attention.
But I know what’s at stake when your future depends on one test.
If you — or someone you know — needs to pass CELPIP for PGWP, or permanent residency in Canada, tell them there’s now a platform built for them, by one of us.
Follow our journey at Lancity.
And if this story resonates — your support would mean the world.
Every share, kind word, or silent prayer matters more than you know.
Thank you.
