The Body Shop, the UK’s iconic ethical beauty brand, has made its debut in Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the country’s retail and skincare industry.
The first store opened on March 8, 2025 – International Women’s Day – at Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja, providing Nigerians with direct access to the brand’s renowned products. The official store opening is expected to usher in a new era of accessible and ethical beauty in the Nigerian market.

At the helm of The Body Shop Nigeria is Shalom Ijeoma Lloyd MBE, a British-Nigerian serial entrepreneur with over 28 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She is also the founder of Naturally Tiwa Skincare, a natural, chemical-free skincare company built on valuing healthy, ethical, and sustainable living while empowering African women.

Lloyd’s leadership is expected to align The Body Shop’s global excellence with local vibrancy, offering employment and business opportunities in Nigeria.
This launch positions Nigeria as the first West African country to host a Body Shop store, joining a global network that spans 71 markets and over 1,700 stores. For years, Nigerians have embraced The Body Shop’s ethically sourced and cruelty-free products, often acquiring them from abroad. With a local presence, consumers will now have direct access to the brand’s skincare, hair care, and wellness collections.

The expansion into Nigeria not only reflects the country’s growing consumer market but also strengthens UK-Nigeria trade relations. In 2023, the total trade in goods and services between the two nations was valued at £7.8 billion, up from £6.9 billion in 2022.
The Body Shop’s entry into Nigeria is more than just a business expansion; it represents a commitment to ethical beauty, sustainability, and the empowerment of local communities.

As the brand opens shop, beauty enthusiasts in Nigeria can look forward to an immersive shopping experience that blends global excellence with local vibrancy.
The Body Shop was founded in 1976 by Dame Anita Roddick in Brighton, England. It started as a small shop selling ethically sourced and naturally inspired beauty products. Roddick’s vision was to create a brand that prioritized sustainability, fair trade, and cruelty-free practices at a time when these values were not widely embraced in the cosmetics industry.
