“That’s a wrap! What an incredible year it’s been! 🌟”, says Theo-Lee Houston, recipient of the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund, which provides cash awards — without giving up equity in return — and hands-on support to help Black entrepreneurs build and grow their businesses.
Theo is Founder at Slinger, and shared his thoughts and major takeaways on the recently-concluded accelerator programme:
“We’re thrilled to be part of the prestigious Google for Startups Black Founders Fund program, an absolute honour to be part of a cohort radiating with black excellence! 🖤
“A heartfelt thank you to the phenomenal Google teams for their unwavering support, propelling us seamlessly into the vibrant ecosystems of London 🇬🇧, Paris 🇫🇷, and Cape Town 🇿🇦. Special shout-outs to thier partners Allen & Overy, ITV and London & Partners for believing in our vision.

“Key takeaways that resonate deeply with our journey:
🖤 Representation Matters: Surrounded by black excellence, we’re reminded that the sky is not the limit – it’s just the view.
🖤 Persistence Pays Off: Faced with a myriad of rejections, we pressed on. To aspiring entrepreneurs: the perfect investor might be just one email away. Keep going!
🖤Think Globally: Our journey took us across diverse ecosystems worldwide. A reminder to dream big, transcend local boundaries, and let the world be your canvas.
“Here’s to breaking barriers, shattering ceilings, and celebrating the extraordinary support that propels us forward. Black excellence is not just a goal; it’s a journey we embark on, together.”
