Three-time Founder and Venture Coach, Tola Alade, is an entrepreneurial maverick with extensive experience in founding and scaling innovative companies across various industries that include the creative, media, and technology spaces.
Tola saw a gap in the UK’s £1.17 billion rum market—a need for something fresh, something that speaks to people who are tired of the same old pirate-themed rums.
He knew DÒDÒ could fill that gap as a challenger, and on April 01, as an April Fool’s joke, his company Marmalade Ventures announced the launch of Plantain-infused Brandy (now Rum).
The idea stuck not only with Mr. Alade, but also with a crowd of plantain-lovers all over social media, eventually resulting in the development of a definitive brand named DÒDÒ (which translates to ‘plantain’ in the Yoruba language)
Tola went ahead to partner with a UK-based distillery and a global flavouring company with the clear objective of ensuring that every drop of DÒDÒ would be crafted with care and live up to the expectations.
Says Tola:
My goal was clear: I set to create a rum that’s not just another bottle on the shelf. I wanted something that celebrates culture, blending the rich heritage of West Africa and the Caribbean with a modern twist.
The journey had its challenges, from perfecting the flavour to figuring out how to stand out in a crowded market. I believed in DÒDÒ every step of the way. I knew we weren’t just launching a product; we were starting something bigger.
Today, Marmalade Ventures has launched pre-orders for its first batch of 250 bottles of DÒDÒ!
