For African agriculture, the real challenge is no longer proving the opportunity—it is building at the scale required to capture it.
That means moving beyond fragmented financing and isolated interventions towards the capital, infrastructure, technology and institutions capable of transforming how food is produced and supplied across the continent.
ThriveAgric’s latest financing milestone offers a glimpse of what that scale could look like. But for CEO Uka Eje, the significance of the company’s ₦50 billion Commercial Paper Programme lies less in the headline figure than in what it enables: a new phase of growth, deeper institutional capacity and greater investment across the agricultural value chain. Read his thoughts:
“It’s been over a week since we officially announced the SEC approval of ThriveAgric’s ₦50 billion Commercial Paper Programme and our oversubscribed ₦5.3 billion Series 1 raise.
As such, I’ve spent the last few days reflecting not on what this milestone means for us as a Company, and more importantly, what it makes possible.
Building in African agriculture requires more than capital. It requires resilience, strong governance, trusted partnerships, and the ability to build systems that can withstand uncertainty.
For nearly 10 years, we have worked hard to build that foundation. Today, we have the opportunity to put it to work at a much larger scale. The ₦50 billion Commercial Paper Programme gives us access to a deeper pool of institutional capital and strengthens our ability to deploy capital across the agricultural value chain.
Our focus now is simple: scale what works, reach more farmers, strengthen agricultural supply chains, aggresively increase food production, and build a more productive and resilient food system.
We believe the opportunity in African agriculture is enormous. Africa has the land, people, and resources to feed itself and become a major food supplier to the world. What is required now is the scale of capital, infrastructure, technology, and institutions needed to unlock that potential. This is the opportunity in front of us.
For ThriveAgric, the next phase is about scaling our business, deepening our institutional capacity, and building the infrastructure and systems required to transform African agriculture at scale.
We are thankful for the Commercial Paper Programme, but know it’s not the destination. It is a platform for what comes next and we are excited to keep building.
To our investors, institutional partners, regulators, and the incredible team at ThriveAgric, thank you for believing in what we are building.
There is still so much to build, and we’re not just going to try, we’d Thrive! 🚀
